Now Comment(s)

OK, so I finally figured out that it might actually be possible to allow comments without having to sift through hundreds of spam comments every week. I’ve downloaded and installed Akismet, which was a bit inconvenient because I needed to go through the hassle of registering with Wordpress.com and all that to get an API key, blah blah blah. But it’s supposed to be good. We’ll see.

I had resigned myself to the idea of having to forget about comments, but we’ll see if this works. If I get bombarded with spam again, I’ll have to try something else. And of course I might need extra protection against trackback spam and referrer spam.

Besides, the main reason I shut off comments was because of spam, but for some strange reason spam comments were still showing up in the moderation queue. That’s odd, because I hadn’t just shut off comments from the dashboard, I had done a blog-wide comment closure through SQL, which was supposed to be foolproof. Well, the fools found me. And if the fools are still going to comment, might as well let everyone else do it too. Except Kuku Man, he should just get his own blog, and we’ll all go there and leave crazy comments. Of course, he could comment here too, but come on…be reasonable, eh?

So, if anyone would like to comment, feel free to do so. Hopefully this thing will work.

Nizar: Hah. Admit, it, you’re happy that I might have actually missed your comments.

Sashi: I looked at it shortly after installing Akismet, and I really liked it. But then I downloaded it and went to install it and in the Readme file I saw that it doesn’t work with GoDaddy hosting. Doh! Oh well…

Ben: The silence wasn’t so bad, but I realized I was wrong about being OK with blogs that don’t allow comments. I only read one blog that doesn’t have comments, and only occasionally. And I often think to myself, Heh, this blog should allow comments. Why no comments?

Kuku Mon: Two totally different people? Are you sure? They wouldn’t happen to inhabit the same body, would they? It doesn’ matter though, they’re both kuku…haha.

    Nizar: Too bad!

  8. Jordan,

Try upgrading to Wordpress 2.0. The Akismet feature works great. I was overwhelmed by commment spam too: now I don’t get any whatsoever. The upgrade process isn’t too bad either.
